Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Benfica youngster Joao Neves.
Erik ten Hag will need to evaluate the market throughout the summer because he is having to work with a restricted budget to sign new players.
It’s almost July and United are yet to make a signing.
We are led to believe progress is being made to secure the signing of Mason Mount, but that depends on whether Chelsea are willing to compromise with United on their asking price.
However, United may decide to add youth to their midfield, with Benfica’s 18-year-old emerging as a target.
Neves made 20 appearances in his breakthrough season at Benfica and transfer specialist Gianluca Di Marzio claims his performances have attracted attention from United.
Bayern Munich and Wolves are also linked with the Benfica starlet.
The 5ft 9inches midfielder joined Benfica’s youth team in 2016/17 and made his first team debut on December 30, 2022. Neves helped the U23s win the UEFA Youth League in 2022 before breaking into the senior side last term.
Neves is currently away with Portugal at the U21 European Championships.
Furthermore, Neves isn’t the only Benfica player linked with a move to United. Some reports claim Rui Costa believes United will pay Goncalo Ramos’ release clause as we look for a new striker in the market.
It is believed that Ten Hag will be able to boost his transfer kitty with player sales, but we all know that United usually struggle to get what they want for players they no longer want.
