Manchester United held talks over Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong in April but are yet to lodge a bid for a summer transfer.
The Red Devils have been heavily linked to Frimpong under Erik ten Hag but they’ve never made a formal offer for the defender.
This is likely due to Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s resurgent form, which saw him rival Diogo Dalot for the starting position in the later stages of last season. The pair currently occupy the right-back role, however, they are not as gifted on the attack as others in the Premier League.
Frimpong, 22, is certainly more attack-minded, though. Last term, he contributed nine goals and 11 assists in all competitions, a vast difference in comparison to Wan-Bissaka, 0G/1A, and Dalot, 2G/3A.
United meet with Frimpong’s agent
Whether or not Ten Hag will reignite the pursuit of the Netherlands international remains to be seen, but the club met his agent as recently as April, as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano.
He told CaughtOffside in his exclusive Daily Briefing column: “Formally he has not changed agent; his agent Jeffrey Lemmert has partnered with [a] new agency to work together on Frimpong’s future.
“His agent met Bayern, Barcelona and Man United in April but nothing is advanced at this stage for the fullbacks market in general, same for Joao Cancelo and Denzel Dumfries.
“I think his asking price could be around £30-35m.”
