Manchester United fans are all desperate for the takeover process to end. It has dragged on for over seven months and Erik ten Hag has been given no clarity over the situation.
Everyone I speak to is miffed at the situation due to how the sale is being conducted by the Glazer family and Raine Group.
There’s also a split in the fanbase when it comes to the two leading bidders: Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani and Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
But it has nearly been a month since United secured their place in the Champions League, but we’ve yet to complete any signings in the transfer market.
Ten Hag went on the record towards the end of the season to say he needed “better players” to compete for the biggest honours.
According to The Mirror, United’s protracted takeover saga — as well as the Glazers’ reluctance to spend big after securing Champions League qualification — has compromised Ten Hag’s hopes of bolstering his squad ahead of next season.
Sources close to club stressed that Ten Hag was disappointed not to have been backed properly in January following Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit. He was left with no money – and the option to sign a replacement on loan, which led to us getting Wout Weghorst. A prime Glazernomic signing.
This means all of the discussions held with Ten Hag over players were a waste of time. The report states he met with Darren Fletcher to discuss targets back in early spring, but those plans have reportedly stalled.
It means the Glazers are refusing to sanction spending until the takeover situation is resolved. This is a disgrace as far as Ten Hag is concerned – after the brilliant work he did in his first season at the club.
However, United have had two bids rejected by Chelsea for Mason Mount.
So there is something going on in the background… just not enough!
