Graeme Souness doubles down on ‘Steady Eddie’ comment in reference to Casemiro

Graeme Souness has doubled down on his criticism of Manchester United midfielder Casemiro, after calling the Brazilian midfielder a ‘Steady Eddie’ last year.

The former Liverpool and Scotland midfielder made a premature judgement on a world class player who had won everything at Real Madrid. And, it was clear to see that he made a huge different to Manchester United last season.

However, Souness has appeared on talkSPORT with Simon Jordan and Jim White, only to stress again that he doesn’t think highly of Casemiro. Last year he stated that the Brazil star, aged 30, was not worth £60 million whereas most United fans would beg to differ.

Jordan, who says ridiculous things about United at times, broke into laughter after Souness insisted he would love to have been called a Steady Eddie in his time.

One fan called into the radio station with a request for Souness, saying: “I will immediately donate £20 right now if you, on air, go back on your ‘Steady Eddie’ comment on Casemiro.”

Souness replied (via talkSPORT): “No, no. I still believe that. I would be happy to be called a Steady Eddie.

“Someone that is a seven-and-a-half out of 10 every week. I don’t think he is spectacular.”

Jordan said: “That is a bait and switch if I’ve ever heard one. If you called Souness a Steady Eddie, his head would come off.”

Souness added: “I still stand by that and I don’t think I am wrong on that.

“He is a good player but you would never describe him as a great player.”

Casemiro is arguably the best defensive midfielder in the Premier League. There’s not a team he wouldn’t start in, so Souness’ dismissive tone when it comes to the Brazilian doesn’t add up.

  1. So Souness is spouting his usual verbal diarrhea regarding a United player but Casimero now as he doesn’t have Pogba to slag off anymore i bet he wishes he had half the talent of Casimero his sour grapes against United seems to be a never ending passion of his i’d say i pitied him but he’s not even worth that the Scottish numpty

  2. It’s a really good thing that he’s a pundit and not a decision maker at United. Outside of Haaland to Man City there was no more influential EPL signing than Casemiro in 2022/2023.

  3. I think he’s gutted because utd didn’t want him when he was playing and if Casemiro signed for liverpool I bet you he would be saying he’s the best midfield player in the world, the man is so anti utd it’s embarrassing!!best thing sky sports done was get rid of him!!
