Like the rest of us, Marcus Rashford didn’t enjoying Man City’s treble triumph, but he will congratulate the players involved when they arrive at St. George’s Park for International duty.
Five Man City players were due to link up with the England squad on Tuesday morning, with two Euro 2024 qualifiers coming up against Malta and North Macedonia.
Unfortunately, United were not able to stop City from doing the treble after falling to defeat in the FA Cup final earlier this month.
Speaking while on international duty, Rashford admitted it hurt to see City win the treble. His professionalism shines through as he says he will congratulate his compatriots on their recent success, although maybe through gritted teeth.
“To be honest it’s not nice but it’s football,” Rashford told the media, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News. “The best team that’s consistently playing the best football is going to win the most trophies. They’ve managed to win three this year, well done to them. Obviously, we move on. It’s up to them to keep it up and then it’s up to us to catch them.”
A reporter asked a further question about what he will say to City’s quintet. Rashford added: “Just, ‘congratulations’. It’s football and the most consistent team is going to win the most trophies. It’s nothing new, you look at Barcelona years ago, Real Madrid, they were consistently the best teams so they are going to win trophies.”
