Former England midfielder John Barnes believes Napoli centre-back Kim Min-jae would be the perfect signing for Manchester United.
Barnes’ reason for thinking this is he thinks the South Korean is the ideal long-term replacement for Raphael Varane.
Kim Min-jae only joined Napoli from Turkish side Fenerbache last summer and enjoyed a successful first season in Italy, playing a key role in Napoli’s first league title in 33 years.
Uncertainty surrounding the future of Harry Maguire has led to speculation over a new centre-back joining.
Barnes has tipped the Napoli man as a solid option for United. Speaking to MyBettingSites, as per the Manchester Evening News, Barnes said: “Also it hasn’t quite worked out for Harry Maguire so they will be looking to find a long-term partner for Lisandro Martinez.
“Kim is aggressive, he’s strong and he’s done well at Napoli so that would be a very good signing.
“You have to think short, medium and long term and Varane isn’t going to be around forever so for the future he would be a very good signing.”
The Napoli defender has a release clause of €50 million which expires on July 1, meaning United must act quickly if they want to sign Kim this summer.
I think he would be a brilliant upgrade on Maguire, should we find a new club for our skipper.
