David de Gea is seemingly the latest subject of interest in the Saudi Arabian swoop of Europe.
Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante agreed big-money moves to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad last week, where they’ll line up against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr next term.
The Saudis are now eyeing deals for other high-profile players that are reaching the end of their respective contracts, including the likes of Toni Kroos, Robert Lewandowski, Neymar, Riyad Mahrez, Sergio Ramos and many, many more.
They did, however, fail in their pursuit of Lionel Messi, who instead decided to close off his European career by completing a transfer to MLS club Inter Miami.
De Gea garnering Saudi interest
According to Fabrizio Romano, De Gea is also being closely monitored in Saudi Arabia. His contract is set to expire at the end of the month and the club are yet to sign off on the latest extension proposal, which includes reduced terms from his whopping £375,000-a-week wages.
Clubs in the Middle East are reportedly aware of the verbal agreement between the Spaniard and Manchester United but are “still insisting to tempt the goalkeeper” into changing his mind.
Regardless of what he decides, United are scouring the market for a new ‘keeper to either rival the 32-year-old for the No.1 spot, or become Erik ten Hag’s first-choice should De Gea leave.
