Manchester United’s interest in Harry Kane is no secret, but the club has understood for some time that it would be a difficult task to sign Tottenham Hotspur’s record goalscorer this summer.
In turn, The Times believe Manchester United are increasingly resigned to the prospect of being unable to sign the England captain.
Erik ten Hag needs an elite-level No 9 next season and Kane is one of the best options out there, with one year left on his current deal. The problem stems from Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy’s reluctance to sell Kane to another Premier League club.
Jonathan Northcroft and Gary Jacob from The Times claim United are not optimistic about their chances of signing Kane due to been given no encouragement from Levy that he would countenance selling the goalscorer.
Kane, 30, has attracted interest from Bayern Munich and Real Madrid too.
It is understood that Kane would favour a move to Old Trafford over going abroad, but United are now considering alternative options in the market such as Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund.
Another striker that has been linked with a move to United is Victor Osimhen, but Napoli will demand a similar figure to what Levy wants for Kane.
United are not expected to have the same problems in Ten Hag’s quest to sign Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount.
