Chelsea begin pursuit of United target Victor Osimhen

Chelsea are reportedly lining up their move for Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.

That’s according to The Telegraph, which confirms the Blues’ intention to acquire the prolific forward this summer.

It comes ahead of Mauricio Pochettino’s rumoured appointment, as the Argentine is said to want a striker to bolster his squad ready for his first pre-season in charge of the club.

Manchester United are also believed to be another team well in the race for Osimhen, who netted 23 goals to help Napoli end their 33-year wait for the Scudetto this campaign.

The race for Osimhen

Given Chelsea’s extravagant spending under Todd Boehly, United may struggle to compete if it comes down solely to a bidding war. The American owner and the club’s investors parted with £585.5 million across the past two transfer windows to bolster the squad, all for them to end up 11th-placed and well out of the mix for any of the European football places.

However, the Reds may be able to offer Champions League football should they see out a top-four finish, as well as the prospect of being their No.9 for the foreseeable future in Erik ten Hag’s exciting resurgence at Old Trafford.
