Chicago Fire youngster Brian Gutierrez is reportedly attracting attention from a host of European clubs, including Manchester United.
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United are among a number of Premier League clubs tracking the American prospect, with Scottish Premier League side Rangers also interested.
Gutierrez, 19, has impressed with Chicago Fire in the MLS predominantly on the left side of midfield.
Any potential move to the UK would be subject of a work permit, however if United believe Gutierrez has the potential to be a star at the highest level they would be wise to get the work done early this summer.
Meanwhile, clubs like Borussia Dortmund, Red Bull Leipzig and Girona would face less issues in getting the USA U20 International on the pitch.
United should be in the market for the brightest prospects across the world regardless of the standard of division they are playing in.
It’s also possible that United are being used to spark more attention for Gutierrez in the summer market.
Gutierrez is in his fourth MLS season with the Fire, and has made 15 appearances in the league so far this term. After losing again on Saturday, 1-0 away at Cincinnati, they sit just two points off the bottom of the Eastern Conference table.
It remains to be seen if Gutierrez is ready to step up to the higher standards of Premier League football. Maybe it’s only a matter of time before we know.
