Manchester United star sends ambiguous message to teammate linked with summer exit

Fred has been linked with a move away from Manchester United this summer, with Fulham reportedly among the potential suitors for the Brazilian.

Back in December 2022, Erik ten Hag opted to trigger the one-year extension in the midfielder’s contract, ensuring that he stays at Old Trafford until June 2024. However, he has since admitted that his future in Manchester is unclear.

Fred has been at the club for almost five years having been signed by Jose Mourinho from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018.

In that time, he has accumulated 213 appearances in all competitions, scoring 14 and assisting 19 goals.

His game time under Ten Hag has significantly reduced, though, having made just 12 Premier League starts this season.

Fred addresses exit speculation

The 30-year-old was named in the starting line-up for Sunday’s FA Cup final against Manchester City and post-match, he addressed the speculation on his future, saying (via The Guardian): “I still don’t know, I have to talk with my family, I still have one year left in my contract here. Now it’s holiday time and a good opportunity to rest. I’ll talk to my staff, to the club and see what is everyone’s decision.

“I do have to talk with Ten Hag as well, he’s the manager and the conversation has to involve everyone. We have to see how next season will plan out. I want to be important, I want to help the team, so we’ll see. But I’ve always been and still am very happy at Manchester United.”

Fred then took to Instagram to react to the final loss, saying: “A defeat is always hard to take. Thanks for all the support this season. With our heads held high, we will continue to fight together for United. Thanks God.”

Fellow Red Anthony Elanga responded: “Thank you for everything brother. What a player.”

With several players said to be on their way out of Carrington this summer, could Fred be one of the first?
