Manchester United flop could be given new lease of life with Premier League club interested

Everton are reportedly interested in Burnley’s Wout Weghorst when he returns to the club from his loan spell at Manchester United.

That’s according to talkSPORT via The Mirror, which confirmed that Sean Dyche is looking to bolster his forward options after another season of narrowly escaping relegation.

Dyche is looking for reinforcements to provide backup to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, whose career has become injury-plagued in recent seasons. He spent the majority of the 2022/2023 campaign on the sidelines.

Weghorst’s below-par United spell

Weghorst joined the Red Devils this January in a bid to bolster a depleted attack in Cristiano Ronaldo’s absence.

However, things didn’t go to plan, as the Netherlands international found the back of the net just twice in 31 appearances. Neither of those goals came in the Premier League.

Consequently, Erik ten Hag has opted against making his move to Old Trafford permanent, so Weghorst will be returning to Burnley in the coming weeks after featuring in United’s final game of the season on Sunday.
