Manchester United continue to monitor Declan Rice but could be priced out of a move

Erik ten Hag has Declan Rice on his summer transfer shortlist but fears Manchester United may have been priced out of a move.

The 24-year-old looks set to leave West Ham United in the forthcoming transfer window, despite the Irons’ best efforts to keep him at the London Stadium.

According to The Athletic, Rice has already refused three contract offers from the club and looks set to play his last game on Wednesday, when he can captain his side to European glory if they reign victorious in the Europa Conference League final.

Rice’s story so far

Rice began his career at Cobham, Chelsea’s academy, and spent seven years as a Blue before being released at 14 years old. He then remained in London and joined West Ham’s academy, where he worked through the ranks to become a pivotal member of the first-team squad.

He is also now an established England international, having featured for the Three Lions at the Euro 2020 and World Cup 2022 tournaments.

Arsenal have been long-admirers of the midfielder and look set to finally lodge a bid in the coming months. It’ll have to be around the £100 million mark if they want to try and prise him from David Moyes’ grasp, though.

The Athletic suggest that whilst the Red Devils remain interested in a deal for Rice, “the fee being quoted and Erik ten Hag’s priorities lying elsewhere mean a turnaround is required for a formal approach from Old Trafford to follow”.

Certainly one to keep tabs on.
