Man City 2-1 Manchester United: Ilkay Gundogan brace secures FA Cup

Man City have won the FA Cup after beating Manchester United 2-1 at Wembley.

Pep Guardiola’s side took a huge step towards claiming the treble after already winning the Premier League. They face Inter Milan in the Champions League final next week.

FA Cup history was made with this tie being the first all-Manchester final. Furthermore, it will be remembered for Ilkay Gundogan scoring the quickest goal in a final after just 13 seconds.

United managed to claw their way back into contention before the break after Jack Grealish handled the ball inside the box. Bruno Fernandes stood up and slotted home the spot kick.

While the Reds finished the half stronger, we failed to come out and do the same in the second half. It wasn’t long before Gundogan completed a brace after volleying home a Kevin De Bruyne corner from the edge of the penalty area.

The Germany international thought he had completed a hat-trick soon after, but the offside flag was quickly raised.

United’s brightest spark came from the bench in the shape of Alejandro Garnacho. A lot of us are wondering why he wasn’t brought on at half-time.

City held onto their lead until the full-time whistle to win their second FA Cup in five years.

Hopefully Inter Milan can stop them from doing the treble.
