Harry Maguire set for talks with Erik ten Hag over Manchester United future

Harry Maguire is expected to hold talks with Erik ten Hag to discuss his Manchester United future at the end of the session.

Sources have told ESPN that Maguire is set to have talks with Ten Hag about his future when the season ends, after Saturday’s FA Cup final at Wembley.

It is also suggested that Ten Hag is open to keeping Maguire as part of his squad but understands the England international may want to leave to get regular game time elsewhere.

While it has been a frustrating campaign for Maguire, mostly sat watching on the sidelines, it has been a better season for Manchester United in terms of our defensive record.

United ended their six year wait without a trophy in February when they lifted the Carabao Cup.

However, Maguire has just managed 16 starts in all competitions throughout the season.

Eight of those starts came in the Premier League.

But his place in the team was pushed further down the pecking order following the arrival of Lisandro Martinez last summer.

In turn, Erik ten Hag has picked his preferred centre-back pairing of Martinez and Raphael Varane when available.

Despite losing his place in the United line-up, Maguire has kept his place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad. The defender has been named in the England squad for fixtures against Malaga and North Macedonia in June.

That might not continue to be the case with another season spent on the bench.
