Wojciech Szczesny becomes option for Manchester United and Tottenham

David de Gea won the Golden Glove but there’s still a chance he could leave Manchester United this summer.

Reports indicate Manchester United are targeting Juventus goalkeeper and former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny as a potential replacement or alternative to De Gea.

That is according to Calciomercato in Italy where it is suggested Szczesny is the subject of interest from not just United but Tottenham Hotspur too.

The 33-year-old has one year remaining on his contract in Turin, where he currently earns €7m-per-season. However, it is understood Juventus want to trim back their wage bill and that could see some movement when it comes to the Polish shot stopper.

Roy Keane has enough of De Gea

Sitting in the Sky Sports studio last weekend, former United midfielder Roy Keane stressed that all the pandering over De Gea’s Golden Glove award was ridiculous.

Keane said (via The Mirror): “They’re all patting De Gea on the back there… I’d move him on quickly. He wouldn’t be for me, he’s not going to get Manchester United back winning trophies, absolutely not.

“The idea that the players are patting him on the back is ridiculous, that’s his job.”

Szczesny will be one of the many goalkeepers linked as an alternative to De Gea in the coming weeks. We could even see the Spaniard as a No 2 next season.

Stranger things have happened.

  1. Why not target a younger keeper?I’m sure there are capable buy younger options out there.

    1. I couldn’t agree more. But I would be shocked if we went for Szczesny. Unnecessarily short-term.

  2. Why not target a younger keeper?I’m sure there are capable but younger options out there.de Gea himself came as a young dude & this partly explains his longevity between the sticks for Utd.
