‘We’re closing that gap’ – Marc Skinner on Manchester United’s progress

Manchester United have completed a successful season in the WSL after running Chelsea close to the title. Marc Skinner’s side finished second in the league and secured a place in next season’s Champions League.

Skinner has every right to be happy with the process his side has made this term.

Speaking to the media after the season came to an end at the weekend, Skinner said that he believes that it won’t be long before his team win the WSL for themselves.

“We’re closing that gap every single day,” Skinner said. “It will hurt that we were two points off and it will hurt that we’ve not won the league even though we’ve broken our points tally.

“Congratulations to Emma (Hayes) but this team is coming and it’s hunting, so they’ll have to stay on top of their game.”

Manchester United accumulated 56 points from the season – the same amount it took Chelsea to win the title in 2021/22. This season, however, Skinner’s side missed out by just two points.

“Chelsea have been there and done it and until you’ve been there and done it, it’s hard to sense what’s actually on the other side of that,” Skinner added.
