Manchester United ponder over Fred sale amid Premier League interest

Manchester United midfielder Fred has emerged as a target for Fulham ahead of the summer transfer window.

The news comes 24 hours after Manchester United beat Fulham 2-1 on the final day of the Premier League season.

It may even come as the least surprising transfer story of the week after Fulham manager Marco Silva was spotted chatting to Fred outside Old Trafford after Sunday’s league match.

Furthermore, Fred has lost his place in the starting line-up this season with the signings of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro pushing him — and Scott McTominay — down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag.

It goes without saying that if Ten Hag has everyone available, the Dutchman’s preferred midfield three would consist of Casemiro, Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes.

It is understood that United are considering the possibility of selling Fred to Fulham, as per the Manchester Evening News, with intermediaries proposing a move for the midfielder.

United seemingly want to recruit a younger midfielder this summer and Fred, 30, will only lose value sitting on the bench most weeks.

The Brazilian is also approaching the final year of his contract.

Fred has performed well in certain games this season, but United need more quality in the squad next term.
