Match report: United seal Champions League qualification by cruising past dismal Chelsea

Manchester United have booked their place in the Champions League next season.

The Red Devils saw out a dominant and comfortable 4-1 win over a dismal Chelsea side. Goals from Casemiro, Anthony Martial, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford sealed all three points at Old Trafford.

Rashford’s contribution made him the first Red to score 30 goals in all competitions since Robin van Persie in 2013.

United have now leapfrogged Newcastle into third place, where they can finish the season if they overturn Fulham on Sunday.

Tonight’s win also extended a 28-game unbeaten streak on home turf, picking up 24 wins and four draws in that time. Erik ten Hag is undoubtedly making the Theatre of Dreams a fortress again.

The manager now has the option of rotating the squad for the final matchday, with a top-four finish wrapped up and the FA Cup final just nine days away.

Ten Hag faces huge injury concerns

Two looming negatives of the night were that Antony was forced off through injury and looked inconsolable whilst being stretchered off down the tunnel, and Luke Shaw was also replaced by Tyrell Malacia at half-time due to a slight back injury. The pair have been pivotal in the campaign so far and would’ve likely started the final against Manchester City on June 3rd.
