Two leading journalists rubbish Neymar to Manchester United claims

The summer transfer window will officially open soon and we are preparing ourselves for silly season. To get the ball rolling, Manchester United have been linked with a move for Neymar, which has been rubbished by two leading journalists.

We are approaching a period in the football calendar that will see print and online publication obsess over transfer speculation.

The problem for Manchester United, as the biggest club in the world, is our name gets dragged into most sagas. Football clubs, agents and players know that links to the biggest clubs will only bring more attention their way.

In turn, as editor of Stretty News, I will be checking most of the stories that involve Manchester United – excluding any far-fetched reports.

This one falls into the unlikely category, too.

Let me start by asking does anyone think signing Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain would be a good idea for United?

It’s a realistic prospect if you believe French publication L’Equipe. The report states how and why United are pursuing the Brazilian star.

Apparently PSG are open to selling Neymar this summer, with their ultras voicing their frustration towards the 31-year-old in recent weeks.

The report also states that United are in pole position to sign Neymar, with Casemiro pushing for his international team-mate to join him at Old Trafford.

This story broke on Monday night and it instantly became a topic of conversation across social media. However, two leading journalists who we trust have played down the story as rubbish.

Mark Ogden of ESPN took to Twitter first to rubbish claims as he wrote: “Manchester United aren’t pushing a deal for Neymar. Not the current regime anyway.”

Ogden suggests that under the current ownership — the Glazers — a deal for Neymar isn’t on the agenda.

Fellow journalist Julian Laurens recited the same information on Twitter, writing: “Being told and @MarkOgden_ as well that there is no truth in the Neymar to Manchester United report.”
