(Video) United net injury-time winner in Manchester derby to keep WSL title hopes alive

Manchester United have beaten Manchester City 2-1 at Leigh Sports Village in a crunch Women’s Super League clash.

In a bid to keep the pressure on Chelsea in the title race, United had to pick up all three points this evening to ensure the Blues were not crowned champions by the full-time whistle.

Hayley Ladd opened the scoring within two minutes of kick-off with a scintillating strike before City went down to 10, with goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck being brandished a straight red card before half-time.

The Reds came out after the interval and failed to capitalise on their opponents’ lack of a first-choice ‘keeper. City eventually levelled the scoring through Filippa Angeldahl in the 66th minute.

A crucial winning goal

It took until injury-time for Marc Skinner’s side to find their spark, as in the 91st minute, Lucia Garcia poked the ball home to retake the lead.
