‘Fantastic to be going to America’ – Andrew Cole looks forward to Manchester United pre-season tour

Manchester United will travel to the United States this summer for the first time in 5 years.

The Reds will face a number of top European teams — Arsenal, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund — and it is a fantastic opportunity for United fans in America to see their favourite players up close.

Former Manchester United striker Andrew Cole will be going on tour as part of his role as club ambassador.

Speaking exclusively to Stretty News, the 51-year-old explained the pre-season tours are about hard work for the players.

“Pre-season is hard work,” Cole said. “It’s a case of hard work and getting yourself back I shape again, but it’s not easy.

“It’s fantastic to be going to America for pre-season and everyone will be looking forward to it.”

Cole also stressed how important it is to have a good pre-season.

“It sets you up for the start of the season,” he added. “I look back at my time playing and we never used to have these sort of games (during pre-season); not as tough as Arsenal or Real Madrid.

“That sets you up for the season. I know it’s pre-season but you’re playing against teams you know you could possibly be playing against next season.”

When asked about the fantastic facilities on offer to our players in the US, Cole couldn’t compare it to some of the conditions he had to work in as a player.

Cole said: “I really can’t compare. I’ve been fortunate enough to go on these tours for many years. When it comes to the facilities, obviously you’ve got American football teams and it’s unbelievable.

“When we used to travel and go on pre-season, there was no comparison to the levels they are at now.”
