Erik ten Hag wants to sign Juventus midfielder when his contract expires this summer

Manchester United are being linked with Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot again.

The France international is set to become a free agent next month when his Juventus contract expires.

The Serie A giants agreed a fee with United for the France international last summer, but talks broke down due to Rabiot’s wage demands.

Erik ten Hag was a newly appointed manager and he instantly made it clear that he wanted to improve United’s midfield with additions such as Christian Eriksen and Casemiro.

However, it sounds like Ten Hag has retained a strong interest in Rabiot and L’Equipe (H/t Metro) say he’s spoken to the French midfielder about a move to Old Trafford.

From a financial point of view, it makes sense because it doesn’t sound like Ten Hag will have significant funds to spend this summer — unless the Glazers give up their control of the club to either Sir Jim Ratcliffe or Sheikh Jassim.

The report states that United are now pushing hard to sign Rabiot and that he’s considered an ‘important objective’ for the manager. It goes without saying that he would be an upgrade on Scott McTominay and Fred.

But only time will tell if United get a deal over the line.
