On-loan United defender makes Team of the Week after heading home third goal of the season

Manchester United loanee Will Fish headed home his third goal of the season last Saturday and was named in the Scottish Premiership’s Team of the Week.

The 20-year-old has been a standout performer for Hibernian this season throughout his loan spell.

Fish made 16 appearances across the campaign and now has a crucial role to play in the second phase of fixtures, as the Hibs look to secure European football qualification.

At Easter Road on May 6, the centre-back put his side two goals ahead against St.Mirren after finding the back of the net with an impressive header, and on their way to taking all three points.

He was subsequently included in Cinch’s SPFL Team of the Week.

Fish’s future at Old Trafford remains undecided

It seems unlikely that the youngster will stay at Old Trafford next season, especially if his recent comments are anything to go by; Fish suggested to Edinburgh News that he is adamant about playing regular, first-team football, saying: “definitely wouldn’t go back to playing reserves football, I think everyone is on the same page with that.

“Once you get a taste of that Saturday 3pm, when there’s pressure to get three points and you’ve got fans cheering you on, it’s hard to get that feeling elsewhere. I’m definitely going to go somewhere.”

Given Erik ten Hag’s options in central defence, including the likes of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane, Fish will not get the action he dreams of should he remain a Red beyond the summer.

Another loan deal may be the route Ten Hag takes in order to watch his progression for another year, or he may opt to cash in on Hibernian’s interest and sell the academy graduate.
