Premier League race for top four heats up: Reds need three more wins

The race for the Premier League top four places is heating up.

Whilst Man City and Arsenal fight it out for the title, Manchester United find themselves scrapping for one of the two Champions League spots up for grabs.

United have enjoyed a good first season under Erik ten Hag, but recent results suggest that we are in a false position (4th) in the league.

A 1-0 defeat at West Ham on Sunday could cost us at the end of the season, after Said Benrahma scored the winner thanks to a David de Gea howler after 27 minutes.

It’s time to brush off those questionable results and finish the season strongly by winning at least three of our final four league fixtures.

Liverpool’s win over Brentford and Tottenham’s win against Crystal Palace on Saturday pushed them right into the race as United, Newcastle, Aston Villa and Brighton all suffered defeats.

Premier League results over the last six days, potentially influencing the race for top four:

Wednesday 3 May

Liverpool 1-0 Fulham

Thursday 4 May

Brighton 1-0 Manchester United

Saturday 6 May

Tottenham 1-0 Crystal Palace

Liverpool 1-0 Brentford

Sunday 7 May

Newcastle 0-2 Arsenal

West Ham 1-0 Manchester United

Monday 8 May

Brighton 1-5 Everton

Stretty News verdict

Liverpool are in the best position to catch United at this stage but we’ve got a game in hand over the Scousers. Three wins from United’s four remaining games is a big ask given our recent form, but I trust Ten Hag’s side to get across the line.

United can reach a maximum points tally of 75, whereas the best Liverpool can ask for is 71.
