Ian Wright suggests simple tactic to exploit Manchester United star’s weakness

Arsenal legend Ian Wright suggests teams that play against Manchester United can easily spot some of David de Gea’s weaknesses and thinks it is a problem Erik ten Hag needs to address.

The Spanish shot-stopper is no longer one of the best goalkeepers in the world, yet he is the highest paid goalie in the world.

De Gea’s performances have dipped over the years, but he still has the most clean sheets in the Premier League this season. It should be noted that – with our best centre-backs available – United have been better defensively this term.

However, now may be the right time to replace De Gea. Wright certainly thinks so after the keeper’s howler against West Ham on Sunday.

“At some stage, Manchester United are going to have to look at that position,” Wright told Premier League Productions, as per The Metro.

“The concentration just isn’t there at times. It is a priority position for them? Maybe it’s not. But that goal could cost them the Champions League.

“Whenever you get bodies around him, he gets very, very shaky. I still can’t understand why teams don’t put in-swinging corners in to him at every single opportunity. He’s never comfortable in that situation.”

I can only agree with what Wright has said about De Gea. When you look at the other top teams around us, and in the Champions League, they’ve got keepers who come off their line as well as play out from the back.

Ten Hag needs to do something about the goalkeeper situation to take United to the next level. Ignoring the elephant in the room would not be a good look for the Dutchman.
