Manchester United make decision on Wout Weghorst’s future

It’s no secret that Wout Weghorst has enjoyed his time at Manchester United and wants to stay, but the club – or manager at least – has other ideas.

The Dutch striker joined Manchester United on loan from Burnley in January following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Now, it sounds like his time at United will conclude at the end of the season.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United have decided not to sign the 30-year-old on a permanent transfer.

I think we can reflect positively on his loan spell – so long as nobody mentions the fact Weghorst has just two goals in 26 games since arriving at Old Trafford.

That said, you can’t fault his work-rate and the impact he had in the run up to the Carabao Cup final win over Newcastle.

Ten Hag appears set to prioritise the search for a new striker in the summer. I strongly believe had we a prolific centre-forward this season, United would be looking at a second-place finish this season.

Instead we are crawling to a top four finish.
