Manchester United edge closer to signing Bayer Leverkusen full-back despite Real Madrid interest

Sometimes it feels like Real Madrid can just go and sign whoever they want, but there are players out there who would prefer to play for Manchester United.

Real Madrid seemingly won the race for Jude Bellingham, though it looks like it will be a different story when they go knocking on Bayer Leverkusen’s door for Jeremie Frimpong.

The latest reports on Bayer Leverkusen right-back, Frimpong, suggest that he is already in ‘advanced’ negotiations with Manchester United.

German outlet SportBILD (H/t Sport Witness) claim Frimpong is ‘drawn to England rather than Spain’ ahead of a potential switch this summer.

They add that Real Madrid are interested in signing Frimpong, but he looks set to snub them for us.

Frimpong emerged as one of the top full-backs in the Bundesliga following his transfer from Celtic in 2021, and was linked with a move to Old Trafford last summer.

He has continued his brilliant form this season with eight goals and six assists in 30 league matches.

United could certainly do with an improved right-back over Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot. A player with the ability to create goals from that position would be a huge bonus.

This is something other top teams have in their squad and Frimpong has lots of potential.

It would be a good move from Ten Hag to bring him in this summer. A welcome addition.
