Three talking points from Manchester United’s defeat at Brighton

Manchester United suffered another defeat away from home as Brighton and Hove Albion got revenge for the FA Cup heartbreak last month.

Erik ten Hag named a side capable of getting a result against Brighton, but a moment of madness from Luke Shaw, our best player on the night, cost us at the very end.

Without further ado, we look back at three talking points from the game:

Patience wearing thin with Anthony Martial

Every Manchester United fan knows that Ten Hag needs to sign a top striker in the summer, and tonight’s game was another example why.

Anthony Martial may have come closest to breaking the deadlock before the break, but he was non-existent against Brighton for the most part and we need more from our centre forward.

United were wasteful but it doesn’t help when your striker is idle. He plays like someone fearful of picking up an injury.

Sloppy in possession

United never really got going tonight because we couldn’t keep the ball. It got worse in the second half when the team were extremely sloppy in possession, just giving away the ball and soaking pressure.

This is why I was calling for Christian Eriksen to replace Fred after the break, but Marcel Sabitzer was the midfielder to come on instead.

It’s no wonder United are being linked with a move for Alexis Mac Allister because we are still lacking technical quality in midfield.

Fear not… top four is still in our hands

Our away form has been abysmal this season and it’s a worry going into Sunday’s game against West Ham.

However, United are four points clear with a game in hand.

We should have enough in the tank to get across the line.
