Nemanja Matic suggests Manchester United are close to becoming title contenders

Former Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic is keeping a keen eye on matters at Old Trafford.

The Serb left Manchester United last summer but has revealed in an interview with Sky Sports that he has been impressed by Erik ten Hag’s work thus far as manager.

Matic, who is back playing under Jose Mourinho at AS Roma, said he has enjoyed what he’s seen from United this season.

The former United and Chelsea midfielder believes that the Reds will challenge for the league title next season.

“I like the way he wants to play,” Matic said. “I like the way United are playing. They have had some ups and downs and that is normal with a new manager. But I’m happy with how they have progressed and I think next season they will fight for the title for sure.”

Ten Hag only needs to look at the current Premier League standings to see that United still have a lot of work to do in order to challenge for the title next season.

United look good for a Champions League return but there is no denying that we’re limping to the finish line.

Finishing in the top four was our main objective next season, and with a good transfer window, I wouldn’t write off Ten Hag when it comes to mounting a title challenge next season.

Hopefully Matic is right.
