(Video) Bruno Fernandes scores Man United opener vs Aston Villa after Emiliano Martinez mistake

Manchester United have finally taken the lead against Aston Villa after dominating the first half against Unai Emery’s men, with Bruno Fernandes scoring the opener.

Erik ten Hag’s men were creating chances at will but they could not find a way past Emiliano Martinez, with their own finishing letting them down on some occasions.

The Reds exploited Aston Villa’s high line as the visitors were reluctant to press United’s defenders, leaving them with all the time in the world to pick out a pass.

United’s goal did, however, come through opportunist running from Marcus Rashford as he picked up on Casemiro’s header. The 25-year-old fancied his chances from far out but didn’t get the clean hit he was looking for, as seen below.

Villa ‘keeper Martinez will be disappointed as he could only parry the ball into Bruno Fernandes’ path, who slotted the ball in past the onrushing Villa defenders.

United are thoroughly deserving of the lead but after letting a two-goal lead slip earlier this week, Ten Hag will stress that his players cannot afford to drop their focus levels at half-time.
