Manchester United have beaten Aston Villa 1-0 in a crucial victory at Old Trafford this afternoon.

The match was a pivotal one in United’s quest to finish in the top four and the three points mean they remain fourth-placed, as well as nine points ahead of Tottenham Hotspur, having played one more game.

Bruno Fernandes netted the only goal of the game in the 39th minute, which also marked his 100th career goal; Marcus Rashford’s strike was parried out by Emi Martinez and fell perfectly for the Portugal international to slot it home and give his side the lead.

United could’ve, and should’ve, found the back of the net on several more occasions but the three points were needed and they’ve taken exactly that.

The victory also extended the Reds’ home unbeaten streak to an impressive 26 matches, whilst putting an end to Villa’s 10-game unbeaten run.

Next up for United

Next up for Erik ten Hag’s side is another crunch league outing – a trip to the Amex to face an in-form, European football-chasing Brighton and Hove Albion on Thursday, May 4.
