Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson is set to leave the club on a permanent deal this summer, having spent the current season on loan at Nottingham Forest.
Henderson enjoyed a good first half of the season but his campaign was cut short halfway through when he sustained a serious injury, with Steve Cooper’s men signing Keylor Navas on loan to replace him.
Henderson signed a new long-term contract at United in 2020 after impressive back-to-back loans at Sheffield United but since then, he has struggled to convince three managers that he should be starting ahead of David de Gea.
With the clock ticking on his Old Trafford and England career, it is now being reported that Henderson is heading for the revolving doors at Carrington.
That’s according to Football Insider, who say that Henderson is keen on departing the club as he has no interest in sticking around and being the second choice behind De Gea.
Although De Gea has just three months remaining on his deal at United, the report claims that Spaniard is in advanced talks to sign fresh terms.
It’s claimed that De Gea has agreed to lower his wages as part of the deal and thus keep his status as the team’s first-choice shot-stopper.
That has not been well-received by Henderson, according to the report. It’s claimed that Henderson now views a return to United as ‘impossible’ after learning that De Gea will be staying.
Henderson wants to resurrect his England career and Nottingham Forest are said to be interested in signing him on a permanent deal but that hinges on their Premier League survival.
Forest are only one point clear of the drop but the three teams currently in the danger zone have one game in hand on the newly-promoted side.
