Peter Schmiechel hits out at left-back after 2-2 draw vs Tottenham

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has criticised Tyrell Malacca’s performance after coming off the bench in the 2-2 draw with Tottenham.

Erik ten Hag is without first-choice centre-backs Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez for the rest of the season due to injuries. However, there is a chance the Frenchman could return in time for the FA Cup final.

That would come as an odd surprise, but I’m sure we will analyse it closer to the time

Luke Shaw and Victor Lindelof looks like the pairing for now, even when Maguire fully returns from his injury.

Malacia was at fault against Spurs for the equalising goal, letting Harry Kane slip inside him to set up Son with Schmeichel insisting the full-back was weak.

“And that second goal, I don’t know what Malacia is doing,” Schemichel said, as quoted by The Metro.

“The ball runs straight past him and he just looks at it. You have just come on, you have to make some sort of impact, you have a job to do.

“I’m not sure why he [ten Hag] took Wan-Bissaka off because he was really good today. We’re 2-1 up, you don’t change it, it is not that bad where you take your best defender off.”
