Three talking points from Manchester United’s 2-2 draw vs Tottenham

It feels like two points dropped after watching Manchester United throw away a two goal lead to draw 2-2 with Tottenham Hotspur away from home on Thursday night.

Erik ten Hag’s side are developing a worrying habit of failing to see out leads, especially away from home, with our record on the road somehow getting worse after another disappointing result.

The team were cruising at 2-0 thanks to goals from Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford, but we dropped down a gear or two after the break through our own doing.

Shocking second half

The Reds didn’t get going after the break.

Bruno Fernandes missed a sitter that would have made it 3-1, and probably enough of a lead for United to see out the game. We can’t say that with confidence given how we invited pressure after the break.

Ten Hag will take fault with some of his substitutions, too. Why did Christian Eriksen come off and Fred was dismal when we came on. So was Wout Weghorst and Tyrell Malacia.

Fragile at the back

Aston Villa will be licking their lips with how fragile United look defensively. It doesn’t help that we are playing games without our two main centre-backs, but Luke Shaw did very well in the first half. It’s just a shame that Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot were among our worst performers for the second half collapse.

No enough quality in the squad

We can blame Ten Hag for tonight’s substitutions — or his coaches — but United haven’t got a high standard of players sitting on the bench. That showed tonight against Spurs.

  1. It’s a pattern. Unfortunately imho both Erikson and Casemiro struggle, their legs do not respond as well and Utd are losing the middle of the park and the subs are unfortunately 3rd tier level at best. ETH must get in 2 new I tense CDMs .
