Alejandro Garnacho could miss Manchester United’s FA Cup final against Manchester City on June 3rd.
The Red Devils will tackle the first-ever Manchester derby FA Cup final in June and could be without teenage livewire Garnacho.
The 18-year-old has been out of action since March 12 after sustaining an injury during United’s home clash with Southampton. Garnacho has been sorely missed in the squad too, as he has been a prolific spark throughout his breakout campaign, registering four goals and five assists across all competitions so far.
He is expected to return to full training on May 1, as per Gaston Edul.
Last week, Garnacho was named in Argentina’s preliminary squad for the Under-20 World Cup, which is set to kick off on May 20. Should the team make it to the quarter-finals, that round of fixtures will take place on the same weekend as the FA Cup final.
Garnacho opts for country over club
Erik ten Hag was able to keep the youngster at Old Trafford earlier in the season when the South American U20 Championships took place, however, reports from German Garcia Grova and Mirror Football suggest that Garnacho wants to represent his national team at the forthcoming tournament.
He will reportedly tell Ten Hag of his decision along with Javier Mascherano, who coaches the youth team, during his trip to Europe to speak with clubs about releasing their players for international duty.
There’s a fine example of the old “rock and a hard place” cliche. Tough call for the young Garnacho. I’d say, play the under 20s comp. My word I’ve become unselfish in my old age 😉
