Manchester United are back in action this weekend as Erik ten Hag looks to return to winning ways after his side’s embarrassing exit from the Europa League earlier this week.
The Reds let a two-goal slip in the first leg against Sevilla and on their fourth trip to Spain this season, having been undefeated in the previous three, they were rolled over.
Speaking after the game, United legend Paul Scholes was among those to argue that Ten Hag will have learned a lot about his players from the performance.
It remains to be seen whether United’s showing in Andalusia will have any direct impact on Ten Hag’s team selection for this weekend’s huge FA Cup semi-final clash against Brighton.
A win over Roberto de Zerbi’s men could potentially set up a mouthwatering final against Manchester City. United could even stop their cross-city rivals from winning the treble.
Ten Hag is expected to make a number of changes for this game but he is not blessed with options after a flurry of injuries in key positions. Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof were both heavily criticised for their performances against Sevilla but the latter is almost certain to start again as Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane remain on the sidelines.
Maguire will miss the game through suspension and Ten Hag could use Luke Shaw at centre-back, as he has done in the past to accommodate the loss of Martinez earlier in the season.
Casemiro is likely to partner Christian Eriksen in midfield as United’s first-choice midfield is back together, with Bruno Fernandes returning from suspension to lead the side.
Marcus Rashford made his return from injury in the second half against Sevilla and if his fitness allows it, he will be one of the first names on the teamsheet.
There is little clarity on whether Anthony Martial will be fit after he sustained his latest injury in the game against Sevilla, which could offer Wout Weghorst a way back.
Predicted Manchester United line-up (4-2-3-1): De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Shaw, Malacia; Casemiro, Eriksen; Rashford, Fernandes, Antony; Weghorst
