Sevilla captain names two Manchester United players that will “suffer” on Thursday night

Sevilla captain Ivan Rakitic has fired a warning message to Manchester United ahead of their meeting on Thursday.

The Red Devils will make the trip to Seville this week for the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final clash.

They’ve all the work to do in the match if they want to secure progression, as the tie stands level at 2-2 heading into the game and this time, they won’t have the Old Trafford faithful roaring them on.

Instead, the Reds must tackle the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium, with the home side boasting the most Europa League trophies in the competition’s history (six).

Despite their dismal domestic form, the Spaniards are renowned for their ability to show up on the European stage, and they will be adamant to make it seven this season having reached this stage.

Rakitic warns of a fiery atmosphere

Speaking ahead of the game, former Barcelona midfielder Rakitic has weighed in on United’s trip to Spain, and how they will be greeted away from their home comforts.

He told AS: “These people don’t know what awaits them on Thursday. It is a team with a lot of experience and many millions, but United does not know what Ramón Sanchez-Piziuán is like packed. I know from when I was at Barcelona that players from other teams sing the Sevilla anthem on the pitch. It’s unique. What our fans have created is very impressive.”

The Croatian also highlighted two players who will be well acquainted with the atmosphere due to their time playing in Spain.

“[David] De Gea or Casemiro, who have played here, will surely explain to them that this is something else. You get anywhere and they say that this is Sevilla’s competition. They are going to have to suffer, I cannot guarantee that we will qualify but we are going to leave everything on the field.”
