Match preview: Red Devils have all the work to do in Seville for European progression

Manchester United's French striker Anthony Martial (R) shoots but fails to score during the UEFA Europa league quarter-final, first leg football match between Manchester United and Sevilla at Old Trafford stadium in Manchester, north west England, on April 13, 2023

Manchester United make the trip to Seville this week for the second leg of their European quarter-final clash at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.

A place in the semis is up for grabs and should United progress, they’ll have reached every semi-final on offer to them this campaign.

However, they’ve given themselves all the work to do after last week’s affairs; the Red Devils led 2-0 in the opening 21 minutes of the game thanks to a brace from Marcel Sabitzer.

Things then turned awry in the closing stages though, as own goals from Tyrell Malacia and Harry Maguire meant the tie stood level by the full-time whistle.

Both sides will now be all-out on Thursday evening to secure their place in the next round, with Sevilla having the home advantage for the must-win match.

Next up for United

Whatever the result, United must then quickly refocus and prepare for Sunday’s pivotal fixture; a trip to Wembley awaits for an FA Cup semi-final against in-form Brighton and Hove Albion.
