Manchester United have a number of first-team regulars with expiring contracts within the next 14 months, with Marcus Rashford, Diogo Dalot and Fred all approaching the final year of their deals.
David de Gea has just three months remaining on his deal and as things stand, he is set to leave the club as a free agent at the end of this season.
The Spaniard has been a mainstay in the side since he joined the club from Atletico Madrid in 2011 and it was beginning to look like his 12-year stay at the club would be coming to an end.
There are, however, now positive reports regarding his future as the latest suggestions are that United are edging closer to tying De Gea down to a new deal.
That’s according to ESPN, who say that United now believe that a conclusion is around the corner and that De Gea signing a new deal is close to happening.
As per the report, De Gea is expected to agree to a drop in overall wages but he will see performance-related bonuses enhanced as part of the agreement.
It’s claimed that the bulk of the negotiations have been completed but talks are still ongoing to iron out the final details of how De Gea’s new contract will be structured.
Additionally, despite the apparent headway made in an attempt to keep De Gea, the report adds that United are continuing to monitor the goalkeeper market this summer but the priority remains to sign a striker.

It certainly can’t be denied that De Gea has done well to impress Ten Hag to the point where he is rewarded with a new contract and it should put any suggestions that the manager is not satisfied with him to rest.
David Raya, the Brentford goalkeeper, has been mooted as a potential replacement for De Gea but the latest development means that is highly unlikely.
Raya could instead be signed on a free transfer next year as the Spain international has just one year remaining on his contract with the London club.
