Victor Osimhen appears to pour cold water over transfer links

Manchester United transfer target Victor Osimhen is attracting links to some of the biggest clubs in Europe after a heroic season for Napoli as they build on their quest to win the Serie A title.

The 24-year-old has been subject to much speculation in recent months. And, with Manchester United looking to sign an elite-level goalscorer this summer, the Nigerian could become a primary target for Erik ten Hag.

In a recent development, Osimhen has appeared to suggest that he could stay at Napoli beyond this season – which is likely to because he’ll get priced out of a move when the transfer window opens…

It is no wonder that the Nigerian has become one of the most sought-after goalscorer in European football. This season, Osimhen has managed to score 25 goals in 30 appearances for Napoli this term.

Osimhen is not the only striker linked with a move to United. He also faces competition from the likes of Harry Kane, who is a proven goalscorer at Premier League level, albeit a couple of years older.

Speaking at the weekend, Osimhen poured cold water over reports linking him with a move away from Naples.

“It was tough for me to make my dream come true of becoming a professional football player and now we are about to win [the league] for the first time. I’m at a great club and my career is growing constantly,” Osimhen told TG5, as cited by the Manchester Evening News.

“I am already at one of the biggest clubs and I could not ask for more. Forza Napoli always! We are close to the objective [Serie A title] and cannot wait to make our dream come true, to make it a reality. The players always believed.

“We always thought we could do something exceptional, even when nobody else believed we could. The affection from the city is extraordinary, I have never received so much love. I can’t wait to celebrate with them at the stadium.”
