Erik ten Hag details what he wants in a striker

Erik ten Hag has detailed what kind of striker he is after in the transfer window this summer.

As fans waiting on news over a potential sale of the club, our understanding is a lot will depend on whether Erik ten Hag has the money to spend on an elite-level centre-forward.

Ten Hag gave an interview on Sunday after Manchester United’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest and outlined the key qualities he would expect from his future front man.

It goes without saying at this stage that United need goals more than anything. And, without much surprise, that is what Ten Hag alludes to.

“Everyone is different, obviously, but for a striker the main thing is to score goals by any method, that is so far ahead of anything else,” Ten Hag told Sky Sports.

“We need a striker who scores goals because we have ability in the team to put balls in the box, so we need a striker to finish.

“We have to build a new future and we need a striker who not only scores goals but contributes by linking up play very well and pressing, which is very important.”

This gives us – and United’s potential new owners – and insight into what type of striker the manager is after this summer.

Goals win you matches and that’s why we need someone with a proven track record.

United have been linked with the likes of Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen in recent weeks.

You might get more pressing from Osimhen, but Kane’s link-up play and record in the Premier League should see him become United’s primary target.
