De Gea picks Manchester United teammate who can fill Marcus Rashford’s boots in attacker’s absence

David de Gea is confident Manchester United will be able to continue their winning ways without Marcus Rashford in the squad.

It was confirmed earlier this week that Rashford would miss United’s forthcoming games with a groin injury that he sustained during last week’s clash with Everton.

The first fixture that the forward is sidelined for comes tonight; the Reds take on Sevilla in a Europa League quarter-final first-leg tie at Old Trafford.

United will then travel to the East Midlands at the weekend to face survival-chasing Nottingham Forest at The City Ground.

Being without the club’s top goalscorer has sparked significant concern among fans and most likely, Erik ten Hag. Rashford has provided 28 goals in all competitions this campaign, 10 of which have been winning goals, as well as a further 10 assists.

He is enjoying the best season of his career so far and hopefully, he’s able to return soon and finish it off in style by adding even more contributions to his tally.

De Gea on Rashford’s absence

De Gea still has confidence in his teammates to influence results on the attack though, and discussed it ahead of this evening’s kick-off whilst speaking to MUTV.

“We’ll have to play without Marcus Rashford for the home game. How much of a miss will he be after scoring in both of those matches against Betis?”

“Yeah, for sure he’s going to be a big miss. He’s been brilliant all season, scoring important goals for us. But I think we showed already [with] people coming from the bench in nearly every game, they make an impact. We have a big squad, good players in front, so it doesn’t matter who is going to play there, in that position, [everyone] is going to do a good job for sure.”

“Anthony Martial is another one back in contention and back amongst the goals as well. It’s great to see him scoring. Do you think this is his opportunity to step up and show everybody that we know he’s got all those skills?”

“I hope so. We know what he is capable to do on the pitch. It’s so good. When he is fit and he is ready to play, he’s a top player. He can dribble, he can score, he can assist, so for sure he will be a big player for us.”
