Amad Diallo hopeful of Man United future after impressive Sunderland loan

Amad Diallo is one of several Manchester United loanees to enjoy a breakthrough campaign this year, with the young Ivorian impressing at Sunderland in the Championship.

Amad joined the club halfway through the 2020/21 season and after a promising first six months at the club, which included his first call-up to the Ivorian national team, injuries halted his development.

The 20-year-old endured a challenging six months on loan at Rangers but he has found his feet at the Stadium of Light and earlier on Tuesday, it was revealed that he had been nominated for the Young Player of the Season award.

Amad was part of Erik ten Hag’s pre-season squad last year and the decision to send him out on loan came after the club’s tour of Thailand and Australia and now, the exciting winger has admitted he’s hopeful of having an impact at Old Trafford next season.

“I haven’t shown my best for Manchester United yet,” Amad said, according to journalist and transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.

“But I hope next season I can return and prove my talent. My dream is to play regular football at Manchester United. It was a dream to join them, I love the club.”

SN’s verdict…
United have invested heavily in the transfer market over the last couple of years and coincidentally, it has largely been to sign players in Amad’s favoured position.

Jadon Sancho joined the club two years ago and last year, it was Antony who would be the big-money signing of the summer. That does complicate things for Amad and he will need to have a good pre-season to convince Ten Hag.

Ten Hag has, however, shown that he is not afraid to use his less experienced players as both Alejandro Garnacho and Facundo Pellistri have been used regularly in the second half of the season.

That bodes well for Amad and hopefully, he is able to realise his dream of playing regularly for the Reds.
