Manchester United recently activated a one-year extension clause in Marcus Rashford’s contract, meaning he is tied down to the club until the end of next season.

Erik ten Hag will be desperate to tie the 25-year-old down to a long-term deal, however, with the winger enjoying his best season so far.

Rashford has scored 28 goals in all competitions this season – no player has scored more in a single campaign since Robin van Persie in United’s stunning 2012/13 title-winning season.

Paris Saint-Germain are said to have been holding a longstanding interest in Rashford but a move has never materialised and United will be keen to fend off any interested parties with a new contract.

Rashford recently took to social media to hit back at claims that he is demanding an enormous salary to stay at the club and now, journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has also set the record straight.

As per Romano, Rashford is happy with how things are developing at United this season and he is particularly enjoying working with Ten Hag.

The Dutchman almost immediately made sure to get a tune out of Rashford and that faith has been repaid with a whopping 10 match-winning goals in the Premier League – a figure only matched by Tottenham’s Harry Kane.

Romano also adds that further talks with Rashford’s representatives over a new contract will be held soon as the England star feels that success is ‘around the corner’.

SN’s verdict…
United’s job is to convince Rashford that Old Trafford is the place he should spend the best years of his career. At 25, his prime is still ahead of him and having scored 20+ goals in three of the last four seasons, he has built an impressive foundation to use as a springboard.

Hopefully, this story does not drag on forever and into next season. Ten Hag had to deal with an endless amount of distractions at the start of his first season and avoiding that this year will be at the top of his wishlist.
