Manchester United set Scott McTominay asking price ahead of potential sale

Manchester United are expected to be active in the summer transfer market the spending power available to manager Erik ten Hag is uncertain amid ongoing negotiations over the sale of the club.

In an ideal world, prospective new owners will be in place by the end of the season but as things stand, that is looking increasingly unlikely.

In the event that the Glazer family remains beyond the conclusion of Ten Hag’s maiden term, the Dutchman may be forced to fund incomings with sales.

There are a number of players with uncertain futures at the club, with Harry Maguire, Alex Telles, Eric Bailly and Aaron Wan-Bissaka among those to potentially be placed on the transfer list.

Scott McTominay is another player who could leave the club this summer after the Scotland international was displaced by the arrival of Casemiro last year.

Casemiro almost immediately became one of the first names on Ten Hag’s teamsheet and the former Real Madrid star has been credited with turning United’s midfield around.

That has come at the cost of McTominay’s playing time being significantly reduced and according to reports, Premier League clubs have been circling. Now, amid reported interest from other clubs, it has been reported that United have set their asking price for McTominay.

That’s according to The Sun, who say that United will only let McTominay leave the club if their £50m asking price is met, with Newcastle among the clubs exploring a deal.

As per the report, United have already communicated to McTominay and interested clubs that the 26-year-old remains an important cog in Ten Hag’s machinery at Old Trafford.

Furthermore, it’s claimed that United are in ‘no rush’ to sell McTominay and the player is convinced he can reclaim his stake as a regular first-team player. It’s also added that McTominay recently held ‘productive’ talks with Ten Hag over his future at the club.

Newcastle attempted to engineer a move for McTominay in the most recent January transfer window but Eddie Howe is expected to try again this summer.
