Manchester United join two Premier League rivals in pursuit of World Cup winning midfielder

Manchester United are interested in Brighton and Hove Albion’s Alexis Mac Allister.

According to Argentine reporter Cesar Luis Merlo, the Red Devils will face competition from Liverpool and Arsenal in pursuit of the 24-year-old, with two clubs having already made contact to begin negotiations for a potential deal.

Roberto De Zerbi will likely be unwilling to oversee the exit of Mac Allister, who has played a pivotal role at the heart of Brighton’s midfield this season. He received more plaudits following his performances at the World Cup last December, in which he was crowned a world champion.

Mac Allister’s season so far

The Argentinian started six games across the competition, contributing one goal and one assist to his nation’s winning campaign. For Brighton, he has featured in 28 matches, scoring 10 and assisting two goals.

He will line up against the Reds on April 23 when both United and Brighton travel to Wembley for a highly-anticipated FA Cup semi-final. The winner will face either Manchester City or Sheffield United, depending on the outcome of their tie.
