Marcus Rashford levels Wayne Rooney goalscoring statistic with winner against Brentford

Marcus Rashford has levelled a statistic previously set by Wayne Rooney following tonight’s victory against Brentford.

Manchester United hosted the Bees at Old Trafford this evening in a crucial clash to put them back in the top four of the Premier League.

It was a fairly quiet game, which was a surprise given Brentford’s form this season. Prior to tonight, they’d only tasted defeat once this calendar year.

Unsurprisingly though, it was Rashford who netted the winning goal to secure the invaluable three points for the Red Devils, and his first-half contribution was enough to see them over the line. It was his 28th goal of the season in all competitions and he’ll certainly be keen to add more to his tally over the next weeks to round off his most prolific season in style.

According to a statistic provided by OptaJoe, the 25-year-old has now contributed 10 winning goals in the league this campaign, which is the most by any Red since United legend Wayne Rooney did the same in 2009/2010.
