Jacob Murphy has highlighted one area that Newcastle United’s attackers targeted during their win over Manchester United on Sunday.
The Red Devils sustained a 2-0 loss at St. James’ Park which left them fourth place and winless in three league games. After Tottenham Hotspur drew with Everton last night, United dropped to fifth.
Murphy has since explained one weakness United displayed from early on in the match – goal-kicks. It’s no secret that David de Gea’s glaring weakness is his inability to play out from the back, and it’s clearly something that teams now try and capitalise on.
Murphy on United’s weakness
Speaking on Rio Ferdinand’s FIVE channel, the Magpies winger said: “We started our press off from their goal-kick and their first goal-kick, De Gea was taking a while. I was like, ‘Woah, this is a bit unusual’. I thought they’d start playing out quick and he was taking his time with it. He ended up then asking everyone to go upfield and kicked it long, so I was thinking, ‘ Okay, let’s see how the next goal-kick goes’.
“They were just taking a while, lots of people [United players] pointing [saying], ‘You go here and you go there’. So yeah, I could sense from that we were going to have a good game from there.”
So much confusion in the build up yesterday, Murphy from Newcastle also says how he felt they were on top of Utd after that.
