Reds poor once again: player ratings from Newcastle 2-0 Manchester United

Manchester United have failed to win for the third consecutive game in the Premier League after yet another sombre performance, this time against Newcastle United.

The 2-0 defeat, with second-half goals from Joe Willock and Callum Wilson deciding the tale, means that Eddie Howe’s men have now leapfrogged United in the table, leaving Tottenham Hotspur with the chance to do the same on Monday.

It follows a series of poor performances from United, who are looking like an increasingly fatigued side with each passing week as the season comes to its most decisive period.

Man United Player Ratings

David de Gea – 7
Made one stunning double save in the first half and then produced more magic to deny Joelinton in the second half. Could do very little about the goals.

Diogo Dalot – 4
His impressive first half of the season feels like years ago at this point.

Raphael Varane – 5
One of the very few players who actually turned up to play.

Lisandro Martinez – 5
There wasn’t much he could do to improve what was in front of him.

Luke Shaw – 4
The lack of urgency was astounding.

Scott McTominay – 3
Clearly, he’s not someone Ten Hag wants to start games but injuries and suspensions gave him no option.

Marcel Sabitzer – 3
Just like his midfield partner, the game passed him by.

Bruno Fernandes – 4
Some good passes aside, careless and sloppy.

Antony – 5
Bright start to the game but that was about it.

Marcus Rashford – 4
You’d have to watch the game again to confirm that he actually played.

Wout Weghorst – 3
He’s having far too many games where his involvement is almost non-existent. Needs to have some sort of impact.

  1. Surely ETH should have changed more than formation at half time. Weghorst,Sabitzer and Antony + Rashford were anonymous at least bringing Fred on for Weghorst would have given us some legs and allowed Mctominay into a more effective position. Any change could only improved things. Martial and Sancho have the hearts of mice. Apart from that it went very well.

  2. is there a reason on why no academy players can get any minutes? we give antony ,who can not kick a ball …sancho who looks like he is 55 years old …rashford who hides ,and bruno who is practicing to fly away .

  3. McTominay, Martial, McGuire, Elanga & Weghorst should be on their way at seasons end. Sabitzer, Fred, Dalot, Antony and Lindelof all are bang average and need to be looked at. Antony’s defensive game is nonexistent and Dalot’s form has declined faster than a flat Tyre. With an iffy squad we have done exceptionally well so far but there is still about 10 games to go and top 4 is no certainty.

  4. We don’t need dalot at this stage until the end of the season. Rashford is not game changer like mbape and antony is not threat as nani so we need casemiro more than any other player per now.
We need to sign karou mitoma, de jong or jude b, harry kane or v. Osimhen, mcallister and new goal keeper then wan bisaka to start instead of dalot. We will compete in all competetions when that one is done.

    1. EtH got it wrong but players were below par and showed a lack of intensity. It happens. Now we need to bounce back.
